Gary Johnson

australian Aquatics professional

Gary has spent 25 years working roles from lifeguard to industry consultant, which started following an incident when supervising a pool in 2001. Gary went through the experience of not seeing a swimmer in time to be able to perform a successful resuscitation. This became the day he started questioning everything about lifeguarding.

Outside of aquatics he’s worked on the Westpac Rescue Helicopter, served in the Australian Army Reserve and is currently a Deputy Captain with the NSW Rural Fire Service.

He lives with his wife and 3 daughters in the New England region of Australia and loves to tackle the big ones of how to best protect both swimmers and lifeguards.
